Since the first time Bryce was asked what he wants to be when he grows up, he has said an Astronaut. There were the occasional "rockstar" thoughts, but his main career goal has always been Astronaut. He got to share his dream today at Career Day. The kids spent their morning listening to 'an ambulance man', 'a cotton man', 'a swat guy with lots of guns', 'a dog trainer', and 'a museum lady'. Then they got to share what they would like to be someday. They could also dress up in something that represents that career.
I wasn't in any way surprised when Bryce told me he wanted to dress up as an astronaut. Overwhelmed, maybe, but not surprised. I forgot that I have the best husband in the world that can do anything...including come up with the best astronaut costume ever made in 2 days.
We had trouble coming up with the base outfit. No one sells white sweats, child size painters clothes, or child size white coveralls. And I don't sew!
I happened to be cleaning out mouse-infested rooms at the church on Tuesday. Jermaine and I prayed that we would find something in there that would work for an astronaut. Well, guess what we found in the first box!!! A child's sized painter's suit. Perfect! We just had to rip off the musical notes that were glued to the back, draw on some NASA patches, make a paper-mache helmet, sew some arm bands and a belt (out of some random fabric we also found among the mice), spray paint some snow boots, and voila! An Astronaut!
Thank God for the mouse-infested rooms. And thank God for my brilliant husband.
Go check out Bryce's presentation at school!
